Every Runner is Beautiful
It seems that we are always "running". Running to work, running late, running to appointments, running ourselves ragged! But for me, running is not about chasing something, it's about friendship, achievement, acceptance and accomplishment. I spent the weekend in Prague, Czechoslovakia running a marathon, which took place on Sunday. There was a slogan to this year's marathon, "All Runners are Beautiful. " It really resonated with me. It made me think the message was that irregardless of gender, religion or background, running together unifies us.
My journey began about five months ago, with two of my very good friends. We trained together. Encouraged each other, acted as each other's cheerleaders, and became very bonded through the running experience. When we arrived in the old city of Prague, it was as if we stepped back in time. There is an inherit beauty to the city that is hard to describe. On Friday night, I attended Shabbat services at one of the oldest synagogues in the world - the Maharal from Prague synagogue, which dates back to the 13th century. With its steeped roof, the ornate walls and the incredible architecture, I felt as if I was living in the past!
Ready. Set. Go!
Early Sunday morning, I laced up my sneakers and joined the 10,000 runners in the marathon. It was absolutely amazing to see people of all ages, from every corner of the globe. Running a marathon is not for the faint of heart. It is 26.2 miles of feet pounding the payment. At the beginning of the race, you are surrounded by other runners, feeling energized, knowing that all your five months of training lead to this day, When you run over an ancient bridge in Prague, you try to process your views of a city
that is rich in history and architecture. The last few miles are physically and mentally grueling. The aches begin to from as well as the onset self-doubt - am I really going to finish this? Have you wondering ever intensely prepared for something? Then you know what a sense of accomplishment it is!! The satisfaction of crossing the finish line - it's euphoric. To place a significant goal in life, and then reaching it - wonderful. And I'll revisit a them that has been "running" through my other blog posts. HEALTH. Fitness of your body and soul. I encourage every one to do it.
